Radon Gas Survey
Radon is radioactive gas that has been found in homes all over the United States. It comes from the
natural breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breath. Radon
typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other
holes in your foundation. Your home can trap radon inside. Sometimes radon enters the home through
well water.
Any home can have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well sealed and drafty homes,
and homes with or without basements. In fact, you and your family are most likely to get your greatest
radiation exposure at home. That is where you spend most of your time.
Nearly 1 out of every 15 homes in the U.S. is estimated to have elevated radon levels, according to the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at
risk from radon.
Well Functionality and Potability Test
Q. What is a well functionality test?
A. A well functionality test (or well yield test) is a test that is conducted to determine whether there is
an adequate flow of water from a private well.
Q. When is it done?
A. Usually, a well functionality test is done at the request of a person who is interested in purchasing
the property on which the well is located. This usually coincides with the home inspection.
Q. What are the requirements?
A. Generally, the flow rate and length of the test is set forth as a condition by the financial institution that
is providing the mortgage. In my experience, they have generally asked for a flow of a minimum of 3
gallons per minute over a two hour time period. Please consult with your lender for additional
requirements.
Q. Who provides the water purity testing results?
A. All tests are conducted by St. Peter's Bender Laboratory
